Now that summer’s almost over and the kids are heading back to school, now is the time to help them refresh for the upcoming school year. If your tween’s room is in desperate need of a painting pick-me-up, create a fun, personalized headboard by applying ScotchBlue Painter’s Tape to form their initial directly above the bed. Then paint over with their favorite color, let dry, remove the tape, and voila!

It’s not too late to enter the ScotchBlueTM & YOU Renovation Rescue Crew contest, where one lucky grand-prize winner will receive a room makeover valued up to $15,000 and the exclusive opportunity to work with Amy Matthews on an episode of DIY Network’s Sweat Equity.  Logon to www.ScotchBlueandYou.com for more details and how to enter.

Why I Deserve To Be An Energizer Smart ChargHER #Energizer #Blogher10

July 6, 2010 by theplus
Filed under Family, Me, Tech, Travels

I have been working really hard to acquire a sponsorhip to Blogher10. I have contacted many companies to ask for help. Companies I have worked with for months and a couple that I have worked with for over a year. But to much my sadness no one was able to help me financially with my trip. The companies already invested their marketing money elsewhere or were already sponsoring others.

As a Mommy Blogger who has a family of 6 (total) I just cannot take from my families budget to plan a trip to Blogher1o for myself and leave my family without a vacation at all.

I have already paid for my ticket to Blogher10 but there is a ton more expenses than that to go. This years conference is in NYC. That alone should tell you there will be a hefty price tag on the trip.  I have been trying really hard to be frugal about going. I got a ticket via the Megabus to go that was $15. I got in touch with 2 friends to share a room, so we could split the cost by 3.  And I have been doing everything possible to make it less expensive since I don’t want to interfere with the family budget.

But even after making all of these less expensive plans, it will still have a hefty cost for me.

The Hotel room will be at least $300, then who knows what I will put out in Taxi fare’s. Then I will need to eat while I am there, and of course bring home some souvineer’s for the family, since of course I will be away and missed very much. And also shipping home some items might be something I won’t be able to avoid since the Megabus only allows 1 small carry on and 1 small suitcase.

All of these thoughts alone get me anxious and make me start to rethink even going at all.

I mean, My husband works so hard at 2 jobs all year long. Would it be fair for me to go on a trip to Blogher for over $700 alone and him and the kids stay home and won’t get to go on a vacation, because we cannot afford both?

Or should I see my ticket and take the family on a much needed vacation ?

This is what has been going through my head the past few days and I worry, as a mom would.

Well, I still keep thinking to myself, if I can just work harder and earn the money somehow I still should be able to go.

So, I have sought out some ad’s for my site to earn some money and have participated in some more paid post programs. And then TODAY I saw 2 posts on friends blogs : http://islandlife808.com/daily-life/win-a-2000-sponsorship-to-blogher-2010/
AND
http://www.barefootmommies.com/?p=9400#respond

It is to Win a $2000 sponsorship to Blogher10  from the awesome people at Energizer !

I couldn’t believe my eyes!  I would be able to goto Blogher 2010 without worries and have a fantastic time seeing my online friends and meeting new ones and also connecting with brands and companies. AND, I would be able to surprise my husband and kids with a much needed vacation !!!  With $2000 I would definitely be able to do both.

It would be the smartest way to recharge myself and my family !!! (The same way an Energizer Smart Charger charges batteries)

I can still goto NYC on a less expensive way, with the Megabus and sharing a room with friends to save money, and still take my family on a frugal fun vacation!

After being so stressed about everything I definitely need a recharge !!! I would love to go and support Energizer. They are already a brand I use and love  and being a Plus Size Mommy I am big and fluffy and keep on going just like the Energizer pink bunny! We would be a perfect fit !

Thank you Energizer for having this wonderful contest to support Bloggers. Even if I do not win, I am appreciative that you support us. And THANK YOU @kailani for giving the chance to win as well. Even if I do not win, I would love to meet you at Blogher10 if I am able to go.

Daisy Brand Cottage Cheese Contest

June 21, 2010 by theplus

While it may not seem like the most glamorous on the menu, cottage cheese is jam-packed with protein. Plus, it’s quite the chameleon – it can be incorporated into recipes, used as a topping or dip or enjoyed all by itself as a snack. However, not all cottage cheeses are created equal. In fact, Daisy Brand Cottage Cheese is the freshest brand available, with 100% all-natural dairy ingredients, no additives, preservatives or added growth hormones. Check the label – with only four ingredients, it is a standout against the competition.

To encourage Americans to take a look at their refrigerators, remove unhealthy items and add fresh, all-natural foods, Daisy Brand Cottage Cheese is sponsoring the Freshen Up Your Fridge contest this summer. One grand prize winner will receive:

· A year’s supply of Daisy Brand Cottage Cheese
· A new Whirlpool® side-by-side refrigerator with 6th Sense Technology
· An in-home visit by a registered dietitian to help select healthier, more nutrient-rich foods for their refrigerator
· A $50 gift card toward their first healthy food shopping trip

To enter, simply log on to www.FreshenUpYourFridge.com, where you can share why your eating habits can be improved through a fresh fridge makeover in 50 words or less.

I have already entered to win, try your luck and enter today!

Field Trips For All, From Lunchables Lunch Combinations *

May 14, 2010 by theplus

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Lunchables. All opinions are 100% mine.

Remember back when you were in school and you got to go on Field Trips with your class? I remember quite well. It was always so much fun and it was nice to learn away from the classroom environment and doing “hands on” projects.

One of my favorite Field Trips was actually in High School. We went with my Physics class to a local amusement park and learned about Velocity and Vectors and did projects by using the calculations from off of roller coasters and other rides. We learned a ton and had so much fun.

Now that I have children in school I always love to hear about where they are going and what they will see and do there.  As part of the PTO at my children’s school. I have been learning more and more how much these trips cost for the kids and how the cost is always rising. We (The PTO) have noticed the costs of good, quality, field trips for the kids this year is about $1500 per class!

Thank goodness we have a PTO at the school where my kids attend because without it there wouldn’t be any budget for field trips! School budgets get slimmer and slimmer every year and when they have to make cuts extra activities such as field trips are sometimes the first to go.

Field Trips For All

Hands-on experiences like field trips can help engage children in learning that can open their eyes to the world beyond the classroom. That’s why Lunchables Lunch Combinations wants to help deserving kids across the country go on an inspiring, educational experience with the launch of the program, “Field Trips
For All.”

Field Trips For All” is the first effort from the Lunchables Team’s new initiative called Project Potential. Aimed at empowering kids with opportunities to help them reach their full potential, Project Potential will provide enriching experiences kids might otherwise not have.

According to a 2009 report from The American Association of School Administrators, it’s estimated that over the course of the current school year, the number of school districts eliminating field trips will increase by 56 percent. That’s more than 30,000 schools.

How you/your children can help :

Anyone 6 years of age or older can nominate a deserving classroom by going tohttp://www.lunchables.com/potential/ and submitting a nomination. From all nominations received, 50 classrooms will be selected to go on an inspiring, educational experience.

I will be entering my son’s 7th grade class into this contest myself, to see if I can help them to go on a rewarding experience like the class did in the video.

Head on over to the http://www.lunchables.com/potential/ now and enter your child’s class, or any other you feel is deserving of this great prize. Leave a comment and let me know who you entered and why!

Thank you so much for trying to make a difference in our children’s lives!
