Fashion To Figure ~Dress Review

July 28, 2010 by theplus

Fashion to Figure is a womans full figure clothing company. They carry very trendy and fashionable clothes for plus size women at great fashion prices.  They recently sent me  THIS DRESS to review for them. I love the dress. It is made with 100% polyester. It is sparkly (the picture doesn’t do it justice) and I was extremely excited about the dress. But when I went to try it on, it didn’t fit :(

I was really upset because it is a beautiful dress. I contemplated sending it back to the company but I love it so much, and since I am on the Nutrisystem Diet, I decided to make it my “goal dress”.  I think if I can lose another 10 pounds, it will fit. It is mostly tight around my chest. (darn boobs!)

This dress is a great steal right now too, cause it is on sale for only $9.99 !!!! But even without the sale it was only $25 to begin with which is still a great price, no an EXCELLENT price, especially for a Plus Size Dress !!!

To see some more beautiful dresses they carry  and all the other clothing just visit : www.fashiontofigure.com

and I promise when this dress does fit, I will post a picture of me in it, so you can know I reached my goal to fit it ;)

Now is the time to remember the loved ones that we have lost to breast cancer and the importance of continuing the fight to end this deadly disease.  Actress Melina Kanakaredes is teaming up with Hanes and Susan G. Komen for the Cure® in the fight against breast cancer.

Hanes is proud to expand its partnership with Susan G. Komen for the Cure by becoming the Official T-shirt of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® Series.  Komen will provide Hanes t-shirts to the 1.5 million people who participate in the series every year.  For the second year, Hanes will offer a special “pink collection” of panties, bras, socks, and graphic tees – including three T-shirts exclusively designed by Melina Kanakaredes.

Melina’s three specially designed T-shirts are meant to inspire and encourage others to join the fight against breast cancer. The T-shirts communicate strength, hope and fearlessness and were designed to honor those affected by breast cancer.   Kanakaredes will also be featured in a series of Susan G. Komen for the Cure public service announcements dedicated to breast cancer awareness.  In addition to these efforts that will raise awareness for the cause, Hanes will also make an aggregate cash and in-kind contribution of $500,000 to Komen in 2010.

The Hanes “pink collection” has already begun rolling out in stores:

  • Several pink inspired tees are now available on www.hanes.com and pink Hanes socks are now available at Wal-mart
  • The entire Hanes “pink collection” will be available on Hanes.com and in select stores this fall
In 2009, Komen made grants to more than 1,900 community organizations and provided funding for approximately 500,000 breast cancer screenings.  Komen also provided $60 million for research in 2009, part of an overall $500 million investment in research since Komen was founded.

HELP! Clothing Dilemma

April 10, 2010 by theplus

I have run into a Dilemma in my bedroom and I need your help/suggestions. I am hoping to get some great advice from my bloggy organizer friends (Organizer Sandy?). I wonder if they ever ran into this problem before.

Well, as most of my readers know, I am on a weight loss quest. A journey to lose weight and keep it off completely. It has been really hard. When I had started this journey, I decided that I was NOT going to buy any new clothing until I had to. Like when clothes were so baggy they would be falling off my body. I have, however gotten some great clothing to review on my blog, but I wasn’t counting those, and they are out of season now anyways, mostly.

Well, here is my dilemma. I have clothing that I bought last year, summer, that no longer fits (is too small), plus a ton of winter clothing that is now too small. I also have the clothing that fits me. I am planning on losing much more weight this Spring & Summer and do not really want to get rid of a ton of clothing because when I DO lose the weight, I will need those. However, my bedroom and house is small as it is for a family of 6, and there is hardly any storage space. I am beginning to feel clostrophobic in my own bedroom because of all of these clothes taking over. There is no more room in my closet, so now they are stacked up in piles on my side of the room. I have been spring cleaning this week, and dreading what to do???

Part of me, says, throw out everything I cannot wear (well, not really throw out, but I donate it), and buy new after I lose the weight. The other 1/2 of me says, these clothes are pretty new and I will need them as I lose weight. Also, do I want to re-spend money for clothing later ?

Part of me is saying there are woman who need these clothes somewhere and they aren’t doing nothing but sitting in my room cluttering up the place and making for a great fire hazard. And that I can buy back the clothes a little at a time and use the new clothes as rewards as I lose weight.

The other part comes in and says, I just spent a lot of money on clothes last time I lost weight and I could use that future money on something else.

UGHHHHH !!!! HELP !!! lol

I talked to my husband about it, because he is quite sick of it too. After all he is also in our bedroom and has to look at it everyday and he is also not a clutter bug, and is always seeking safety. But on the other hand, he also doesn’t want me to spend anymore money on clothes unless I must!

He did suggest I could stick some in totes and stick them in the basement storage. Which I too thought of. But then I think of the bugs and sometimes critters that sometimes get into totes, and don’t want that in my clothes either. And God forbid a mouse get into it, and chew them up, then donating them IS a better option.  I also worry that they will get lost in the abyss down there. That is where we store all of our decorations and stuff like that too. So then I would probably forget about them and go buy new anyways. and again, there is NOT a lot of room left down there.

This feels like the same dilemma to me that I go through when my hair color is growing out, or when I am trying to grow back from a short haircut. It is at the point where I don’t know if I should cut it or let it be!!!!

What would you do?  Have you ever been through this?

Please leave me your advice and comments and tips. Any idea’s I will love to hear them.

And I may pick a random draw of anyone who leaves me a comment that is worthy, and you just may get a prize of some sort. Also, if I use your idea, I may reward you with a prize. So comment away.

THANK YOU in advance !!!

Let Me Introduce You to Juanita Kelly – Designer of “Goddess”

March 26, 2010 by theplus

Juanita Kelly is unlike any other designer that exists in today’s fashion world.
She was raised in Plainfield, NJ where she learned to sew from her grandmother
at the age of three. Over the next several years, her skills and eye for fashion
continued to evolve to the point where she now holds the distinctive status of
being one of only a small number of master seamstresses in the United States.
She lives, breathes, and understands fabrics, textiles, and patterns in and out,
an element that gives her and Goddess by Juanita Kelly the definitive advantage
over the competition.

Juanita Kelly is a highly educated woman. In addition to being a master
seamstress, she also holds multiple degrees from Rutgers University. She is also
well versed in the fashion and entertainment industry. At age 10, Juanita
pursued professional modeling, dancing and acting for the next 14 years, and
from which she eventually retired in 1999. She then launched her own modeling
and talent agency, which realized tremendous success. During this time, Juanita
launched her first clothing line, ETC Fashions, which specialized in making
one-of-a-kind custom garments, some of which have been featured in major films
and television shows and worn by several A-List celebrities.

In 2000, Juanita was forced her to give up her lucrative business endeavors when
she was diagnosed with cancer. She fought back, enduring rounds of chemotherapy,
radiation, and brain surgery. During this time she met and married her now
husband Nicola and has a beautiful daughter Clarissa. Juanita persevered and
went into remission a few years later. Now she is not wasting a single minute
and she is delving right back into what she loves…. creating stylish,
comfortable, supportive garments for the plus size woman.

Many traits separate Juanita Kelly from the rest of her competitors. While she
is a master seamstress, she is often hard at work in the studio designing and
constructing the garments. She doesn’t just sit behind a desk and say what she
likes and what she dislikes. Being a plus size woman herself, Juanita
understands what the curvy woman wants in a garment. Juanita also believes in
giving back to the community. She has served as a mentor for pregnant teenagers
at Plainfield High School and has also opened up her home to host support groups
for battered women after she herself escaped from an abusive relationship.
Juanita plans to donate garments to battered women foundations which can be worn
for job interviews to aid abused women in getting their lives back on track.
