My home was always the neighborhood home where all of my daughters friends gathered. They played, did homework together, had overnights, stayed while their parents went on vacations. We were always there for them.We had some good talks about how people should act, what was appropriate and what was not,and about cleanliness, too much makeup, etc.Sometimes these girls didn’t want to go home! Now that they are grown, some have thanked me for being in their lives and giving them sound advice. Sometimes that sound advice was just to be there and listen to what they had to say.Of cours, if a really serious problem came up,I would tell them that they had to speak with their parent, or sometimes they would ask me to or go with them.I like to think that I helped, in some small part, to make these girls into the young women that they are today.

I think I’m positively influencing the lives and self-esteem of all three of my young nieces. They have a pretty terrible home life, with no real parenting or concern. I try to be there for them, showing them that they are worthwhile young ladies and do not need to emulate what they see at home. This is my hope, anyway.

I have 4 boys & one little girl. I wanted a little girl so much & she is my princess. But 4 older brothers can be so mean & often they tease her a lot. She is 9 and at the age where these things matter a lot. The girls at school are starting to be mean too sometimes. My little girl is beautiful & I tell her that every day. I tell her that she shouldn’t listen to what others say that in God’s eyes she is beautiful & perfect. I don’t know why kids can be so mean but if you take it to heart then it can really affect you. I unfortunately let it affect me when I was in school & became withdrawn. I don’t want to see my daughter go through this. I try to use my experiences to make it easier for her. It took me years to over come my shyness. I want her to be happy, know that she is beautiful & also show her that its really not whats on the outside that counts anyway but what’s inside that makes the most beautiful people :)
