“Snow The Race Horse” – Book Review
When the book “Snow The Race Horse” by Demi Knight Clark came in the mail, my near 2 yr. old daughter was so excited that a new book came for her. The pictures in the book are so cute, and my daughter just loves horses. This alone was enough to catch her attention. This book was very neat how they taught about teamwork and friendship between the little horse and her friend Tuga that were trying to win the race. You will want to read this book with your child(ren) to see the outcome of who wins the checkered flag at the end! Snow’s adventures won’t end just there either, as you can now also pre-order up and coming books in this little series. All which will teach a lesson to your child(ren).
My 4 yr. old daughter loves horses too, and she was very drawn into this book and it is just long enough to keep their attention span.
You can read more about, Joint the mailing list, order, fan on Facebook, and follow on twitter this book here : http://www.snowtheracehorse.com .

“Catty Wompus” Book Review
Catty Wompus is a Brightly colored book that is about Friendship written by Julie Howe.
My daughters really enjoyed this story about a little girl named Catty Wompus who had everything but was not a very nice little girl, until one day another little girl gave her a chance at friendship. It tells about how having a honest friendship is much better than any material things you could ever have.
I really enjoy reading this story to my girls. They may be a little young to understand the whole concept, but I feel by starting to instill these concepts into a child as early as possible truly can start to shape how your child see’s the World around them and the people in it.
It is very important that children give other kids a chance, even if they seem like they are mean or miserablefriendship or love might be the one missing link in their lives that they do not have, that can completely change their little World for them.
You can buy the book, learn more about the book and sign up for the mailing list here : http://www.amtopmcreative.com/clients/cattywompus/
You can Fan the book on Facebook here : http://is.gd/8KAYP
I think your daughters will find this an enjoyable book and I believe you will enjoy reading it to them.

How the Candy Cane Got Its Name

- Image via Wikipedia
Tinycandy’s Gift is a new Christmas story tracing the origins of the popular holiday treat, the candy cane. For Susan Estes’ third book, she explains that it is children’s differences that make them special to the world and highlights through vivid illustrations just how important one person can be.
Tinycandy is an elf growing up in the North Pole who always felt left out because he walks with a limp. With Christmas approaching, Tinycandy is desperate to find his special “gift” in order to contribute to Christmas in Santa’s workshop and become accepted by the other elves. Tinycandy soon discovers that his gift is making special candies shaped like hooks that make Christmas a little sweeter for everyone. Impressed by Tinycandy’s new talent, Santa christens the special treats “Candy Canes.”
In Tinycandy’s Gift, Estes creates a unique history of how the candy cane got its name and weaves in a classic tale that conveys to children one of the pivotal rules of life. Estes has spent her life working with and raising children and believes that teaching them to appreciate their own and others’ differences is the most important lesson of all.
Estes is also the author of One Miracle Under God and Choice of the Spirit Child. She is a mother of three and an active philanthropist in her community. She was awarded both the “Mayor’s Merit Award” and “Susan E. Estes Day” for her work in the Knoxville , TN community. She attended both University of Tennessee and Pellissippi State Community College . In her spare time, Estes enjoys writing, reading and spending time with her family.
Tinycandy’s Gift by Susan Estes and illustrated by MikeMotz.com (Dragon Pencil, Oct. 2009, ISBN 978-1-60131-036-1, hardcover, $14.95)

Miss Trimble’s Trapdoor*

A former elementary school teacher, Lori Jordan-Rice set out to create a children’s book series that was entertaining and educational, with a back-to-basics approach to U.S. history. Her two new books, Miss Trimble’s Trapdoor (Synergy Books, October 2009, 978-0-9821601-4-5, $12.95) and Miss Trimble’s Trapdoor: The Perseverance of Christopher Columbus (Synergy Books, October 2009, 978-0-9821601-5-2, $12.95) usher in an imaginative new series featuring a fictional classroom full of memorable modern day characters alongside historical figures such as the pilgrims, the founding fathers of the United States and, of course, Christopher Columbus.
Miss Trimble’s Trapdoor (book one) follows Tyler, a boy who hates school—that is, until he unlocks a secret trapdoor beneath his desk in Miss Trimble’s classroom. Tyler unexpectedly falls into a mysterious basement filled with old books and guarded by a magical talking dog named Barnabas Bailey. His new companion takes him back in time, guiding him through American history firsthand and teaching him life lessons along the way.

In the second book of the series, Miss Trimble’s Trapdoor: The Perseverance of Christopher Columbus, Tyler continues his travels through time with his trusted canine companion, Barney. As they witness Columbus as a boy, a young man, and finally sail aboard the Santa Maria with Columbus himself, Tyler realizes that even a great explorer can face setbacks before reaching his dream He learns he has to believe in himself to achieve his goals of playing on the school basketball team and delivering an oral report on Columbus in front of the whole class.
Kids can visit www.MissTrimblesTrapdoor.com to write to main characters Tyler and Barney, as well as for helpful educational links, crosswords and word searches. The books are perfect for kids ages 6-12.
*I was sent these books to review and for my children to review on my blog. These books were sent FREE of charge to me.

Halfway to Each Other: How a Year in Italy Brought Our Family Home*
A memoir by Susan Pohlman that I think you will adore, officially releases September 25:
GENRE: Memoir / Non-fiction
PUB DATE: September 2009
AMAZON LINK: http://tinyurl.com/HalfwayToEachOther (<–note the gorgeous cover art!)
SYNOPSIS:
The true story of a California couple on the brink of separation, who unexpectedly find love again on the Italian Riviera.
DESCRIPTION:
Tired of each other and completely disillusioned with married life, Susan and Tim Pohlman are wrapping up a business trip in Italy. They have just one day left to spend together with no agenda before they go home to California, to start divorce proceedings and finally move onto separate lives.
But during their last day as they walked along the Italian Riviera, Tim fantasized aloud that, perhaps, they could live there. Susan initially dismissed the notion as nonsense, but found herself inexplicably overwhelmed with a desire to give the marriage another try. Defying all logic, the couple found a school for their children and signed a lease for an apartment. Their therapist called it “an elaborate scheme of avoidance at best.”
But maybe, Susan thought, a life in such a charmed setting could help them find their way back to each other.
“Halfway to Each Other” is the remarkable true story of a family who traded their breakneck Los Angeles pace for a slower, relaxed life, and in the process, found abundant room for adventure and love. This is a book to be savored as you dream of unplugging the telephone, television and computer, and instead, spending time with your family…be it cooking, playing, even riding on the back of a Vespa.
I am so excited about this book, and can’t wait to spread the word about it! This is Susan Pohlman’s first book, and the passages here are warm, funny and relatable.

THE UN-CONSTIPATED GOURMET, SECRETS TO A MOVEABLE FEAST, 125 RECIPES FOR THE REGULARITY CHALLENGED
August 7, 2009 by theplus

As you probably know, moms tend to do most of the cooking in households, and they also tend to worry (the most) about what goes into their kids’ mouths (and what leaves their kids, on the other end). It’s a quiet (or not so quiet in some homes) but persistent concern. I think the book could help out a lot of moms… while offering up some humor. Health Magazine wrote a piece about the book earlier this month (http://diet.health.com/2009/06/14/traveling-diet/)
What is the Un-Constipated Gourmet? (from Danielle Svetcov)
It is a recipe collection of delicious dishes from around the world that have the double benefit of tasting great and calling you to duty. We’re not talking about mixing Metamucil into risotto, or spiking the Brandy Manhattan with prune juice. We’re talking about a recipe collection that stands beside (or perhaps just behind) How to Cook Everything and The Joy of Cooking, that competes on all levels—ease, taste, quality of ingredients, etc.—with great cookbooks for home chefs everywhere.
At the heart of every recipe are ingredients from god’s most “effective” food groups (think of them as “Superfoods” with an agenda) among them: fruit, legumes, chocolate, and coffee. Liner notes will help cooks with preparation, presentation, and conversation – e.g. nobody need know that the sumptuous red-wine compote with crème fraiche is mostly prunes. The book is not without dashes of superstition and lore too.
The Un-Constipated Gourmet will not be one of those harpy tomes that tell you to get off your ass, exercise, and eat low-fat foods. I’ve got no interest in cramping your lifestyle. If you’re 50, stare at a computer all day, and then stare at a TV all night, more power to ya. Just make time to cook great food, is all I ask. If you’re young and active and still suffer from bathroom envy, then you need this book even more than the guy above.
By the time you’re done exploring The Un-Constipated Gourmet you’ll be able to pick up a menu at Chez Panisse, Boulet, even the Waffle House and titter at the offerings. Chard with fish cheeks? Black bean hash. Ha! You’ll be able to look behind each food and know its purest scata-biological purpose. If all goes well, owners of The Un-Constipated Gourmet will be marching to the loo, chins up (leaving the book just outside, please).
From ME :
I figured this is a touchy topic, but one that people do need info. about. So that is why I am sharing this very useful info. with my readers. Please feel free to also visit : http://www.theunconstipatedgourmet.com/
to get more info. and also the cook book can be purchased there.
